When your own childhood shapes how you feel as a parent

Online integrative psychotherapy for adults across the UK

Parenting can bring up feelings and experiences we might not expect. Perhaps you find yourself becoming overwhelmed by emotions, struggling with guilt, being hard on yourself or reacting in ways you don't fully understand.

Sometimes, the way we feel as parents is connected to our own early experiences. Growing up with criticism, emotional neglect, unpredictable relationships or difficult family circumstances can shape how we see ourselves, how we respond to others and how safe we feel expressing our emotions.

You might be trying to do things differently from your own parents, while finding that old patterns sometimes resurface. Or perhaps you're beginning to understand how your childhood has affected you, and want space to explore this more deeply.

You don't have to have experienced what you would describe as trauma to benefit from exploring your past.

Therapy offers a space to make sense of your experiences, understand your emotional responses and develop a more compassionate relationship with yourself. It's not about judging your parenting or blaming your family; it's about understanding yourself and what you need.

As an integrative psychotherapist, I offer a warm, non-judgemental space where we can explore these experiences together, at your own pace.

You don't have to work through everything alone
